LaMere – Goaltender, North Wright County River Hawks
Hometown:
Saint Michael, MN
Almost
three months ago, I began profiling the phenomenal incoming Buckeye
men's and women's players.
Janik
Möser was the first men's
player in our “Buckeye Newcomer Spotlight” series and Kassidy
Sauve followed him up the next week.
We
started the women's profiling with a goalie, and it's only fitting
that we end with one.
Last,
but certainly not least, is Alex LaMere.
Alex
is one of, if not the finest goalie to come out of the North Wright
County program in Monticello, Minn.
In
three seasons with the River Hawks, LaMere compiled a 29-12-5 record,
a goals against average 1.49 and a .935 save percentage, and 15
shutouts in the process.

Seven
of those shutouts came during the 2013-14 season, where Alex posted a
12-5-3 record, had a goals against average of 1.41, and a .935 save
percentage.
Equally
as impressive as the numbers above, she only allowed 13 goals in 11
Mississippi 8 Conference games.
She
was a captain and the backbone of the 14-9-3 River Hawks, a team that
lost a heartbreaker in the fourth overtime to St. Cloud in the first
round of the Mississippi 8 section playoffs.
To
top things off on her incredible career there, Alex was a finalist
for the Let's Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year Award, given to
the best goalie in Minnesota.
She
touched briefly on her offer to come to Columbus in a Press News article and she was enthusiastic to say the least.
“When
the offered me a spot on their team, I was just ecstatic about it,
and I kind of love everything about that school.” (pressnews.com)
After
the departure of Chelsea Knapp and Lisa Steffes, two amazing
netminders in their own right, it will be interesting to see who will
emerge between the pipes for the upcoming season.
Nate
Handrahan and his staff did a remarkable job in bringing the
high-quality goaltending of Kassidy Sauve and Alex LaMere to the 614 area code.
Stacy
Danczak, a redshirt junior, has the daunting task of trying to
emerge as a starter while helping to get these ladies prepared for the road
ahead in the WCHA.
All
three will have to be ready, because life isn't easy for goalies
in the nation's toughest conference.
Going out with a bang, HNIC gives you three videos of the incredible goalie that fans are going to see on Woody Hayes Drive.
