John Albert heads to Calder Cup Finals with IceCaps

Albert was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the sixth
round, 175th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft
Former Ohio State standout John Albert and the St. John's IceCaps (AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets) are heading to the Calder Cup Finals.


He will become the third Buckeye to play in a professional final series this year (see the story on former Buckeyes Devon Krogh and Chris Reed here)


The IceCaps Eastern Conference Final series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins came to a close Tuesday night after St. John's took game six at home by a 5-0 final score.


Albert was certainly one of the finest playmakers the Buckeye program has ever seen. He accumulated 33 goals and 91 assists during his time in Columbus. His 124 points are 36th all time in OSU history.


In 63 regular season games with the IceCaps, the Cleveland, Ohio, native pumped home 28 goals and had 17 helpers. During the course of 16 playoff games, Albert has a goal and five assists.

St. John's will play in the Calder Cup Finals against the Texas Stars. The series will begin Sunday in Cedar Park, Texas, at 7:30 pm.
