A
mosquito, NHLer Steve Ott, and the Energizer Bunny.
It's
not often you see all three of these mentioned in the same sentence,
but they all have a connection to this week's spotlight.
While
the mosquito gets under people's skin for a living, Ott does the same
thing and has the ability to put up some points. The bunny represents
both of their abilities to simply not quit and will continue to do so
until they're stopped.
Ok,
maybe not my best introduction. But for Christian Lampasso, the man
who was quoted in the Lincoln Journal Star as saying “I'm a pest to
play against,” it only seems appropriate.
Lampasso,
an Amherst N.Y., native, had quite the productive year for the
Lincoln Stars. In 57 games this past season, he lit the lamp 16 times
and had 24 assists for a total of 40 points.
The
Unofficial Lincoln Stars Blog had this to say about the speedy
forward prior to the 2013-14 season:
"It's gotta be the dreads Cotton...." Anna Reed/Lincoln Journal Star |
“He's
a bit on the small side, but he plays much bigger than that. More
importantly, he has soft hands and along with his speed, is more than
capable of being a top 6 forward for the Stars this upcoming
season...”
Dead
on. Christian was a top six forward this past season.
“Christian
is a very hard worker on the ice, gives 100% each shift, and has
speed to burn.”
I
would like to take this opportunity to give associate head coach
Brett Larson an A+ combined with a gold star sticker on his effort to
bring a talent of this caliber to Columbus.
A
former coach of Lampasso's during their time in Sioux City (USHL),
Larson went to work on recruiting Christian as a coach at OSU.
He
got the job done.
“I
was looking at Ivy League schools for pretty much my whole life. The
Sioux City head coach last year, Brett Larson, took the associate
head coach job at Ohio State. He called me up and said, 'I loved the
way you played and loved you as a player on my team and I really want
to bring you into this program.' The biggest thing with my decision
was just knowing there is a coach who trusts me and believes in me
being there. (Lincoln Journal Star)
Fearless,
determined, a work ethic off the charts.
Sounds
like a Buckeye to me.
It's
not often that HNIC focuses on pregame rituals, but after reading
about what Lampasso's were in Lincoln, I think it's necessary to pass
them on to you fine readers.
“I
have some unique pregame rituals. I've changed them up over the
years. I eat Chipotle the night before a game. I drink six bottles of
water the night before a game. The day of the game. I go to Noodles
after pregame skate and get penne rosa. Then I take a nap and wake up
at exactly 3:30 p.m. I take a shower, get dressed and get to the rink
at 4 p.m., which is a full hour before we need to be. I eat a bagel
with cream cheese at 5 p.m. We do our warmup, and then I listen to
music and picture myself scoring 50 goals in my head. Maybe one day
I'll get all 50 in one game.” (Lincoln Journal Star)
50 goals in a game?
I
know I wouldn't mind.
